First Fridays: October Announcement

For our October edition of First Fridays we welcomed Alyssa Miller, Drew Balstad and Matt Lee for a conversation about the art of cooking and curating amazing meals at home.

Megan Lewis - Milk Made Catering
Join Cheesemonger Megan Lewis with Milk Made and Erin Clancy, Sales Manager with Caves of Faribault for an evening of cheese on Friday, October 21 at Dash & White.

Woman have had an amazing history making cheese. In this class we will showcase (4) Minnesota cheeses made by strong woman. Erin Clancy, Sales Manager with the Caves of Faribault, will lead attendees in an incredible and empowering evening of cheeses, stories, and delicious pairings.

The evening will be begin with a custom cocktail and Oh Fer Cute-erie Cone in The Black Suite at Dash and White. We will then follow up with a tasting class consisting of four cheeses, crackers, and little tasty bites. Pairings are sure to be delicious.

Each guest will receive a complementary Red or White wine glass from our friends at Dash and White.

Bjorn Solberg - Red River Harvest Coop
Red River Harvest Cooperative is a community of local producers committed to empowering a resilient local food economy by providing sustainably grown food options while practicing good stewardship of agricultural resources. The Coop brought their harvest to Moorhead school kitchens on Thursday, Oct 6 for Farm to School month. Check out the story on WDAY!

Leola Daul - Heart-n-Soul Community Cafe
Heart-n-Soul Community Cafe helps neighbors share a meal in order to foster a tight knit Fargo-Moorhead community. All are welcome, no matter their economic status. They have numerous events in October and they are always looking for volunteers.

Zoe Absey - Cass Clay Hunger Coalition
The 5th annual Hunger & Health Summit will take place on October 20th at Bluestem. Registration includes lunch from Heart-n-Soul Community Cafe and the full day of program.

Rory Biel - Cass Clay Food Commission
The mission of the Cass Clay Food Commission is to ensure that all members of the community have access to safe, nutritious, affordable and culturally-based food. The CCFC will host a breakout session at the Hunger & Health Summit with elected officials who serve on the Food Commission. Also, the next Cass Clay Food Partners Food Commission meeting is November 9 at 10:30am.

Toby Zikmund - Red River Market

The Red River Market’s mission is to create a place where all people can experience the joys of local food. Shop from over 60 local vendors including produce, meat, eggs, bakery, pantry items, household goods, and art. They have many volunteer opportunities through the season. They also have a SNAP Double Bucks program where food benefit recipients can receive an additional $15 to purchase eligible products every market day.

Kay Cote - Fargo Fit Friend
I've partnered with Black Coffee & Waffle Bar for an an inclusive 60 minute yoga flow class with a mimosa to follow to support team Run For Autism in the New York City Marathon. Tickets are $30 and include yoga + your first mimosa. Proceeds go to support Organization for Autism Research. WHY RUN FOR AUTISM? 1 in 44 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism. By joining the RUN FOR AUTISM team, you’re supporting OAR’s mission to fund research and resources that help people with autism and their families today. Growing Together Community Gardens
Growing Together gardens have wrapped up for the season but they are hosting squash sales on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10am-2pm. They are also recruiting volunteers for the 2023 season. Contact Jack at jackstomatoes@gmail.com to learn about volunteer opportunities.

Carrie Wintersteen - Theatre B
Theatre B is wrapping up their season opener, KEELY AND DU. In the wake of the Supreme Court's recent Dobbs decision, this 1993 award-winning script is as urgent as ever. Their next production will open November 25.
