First Fridays: May Announcements

Our May edition of First Fridays was a conversation about our own Little Free Garden project! We welcomed Warren Christensen, Simone Wai and Clare Albrecht, three Little Free Garden owners, to share their perspectives and garden stories!

Amanda Olson, ND Department of Public Instruction / Farm to School
Amanda is the new Farm to School Specialist hired with NDDPI. NDDPI has developed a new Farm to School position at the Child Nutrition and Food Distribution office. If producers or others are interested in learning more about the initiative, goals for the program, future events, etc., Amanda would love to connect!

Anna Sather, Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley
Farm in the Dell has CSA shares and volunteering experiences available in 2023. ALSO, they just launched a Table to Farm Dinner Series, and registration is now open!

Josie Gereszek, Moorhead Farmers Market
Moorhead Parks & Recreation is accepting vendor registrations for the Moorhead Farmers Market’s 10th season! They’re excited to return to the Hjemkomst Center parking lot this year, June 6-September 26 (no July 4). Market hours will be 3:30-6:30 pm. A single space fee for the entire season is $75, or $20 for one-off markets.

Jack Wood, Tomato Seed Savers Club
The Tomato Seed Savers will have a tomato sale on May 23 and May 30.

Leola Daul, Heart-n-Soul Community Cafe
Heart-n-Soul has cafes all month long across Fargo-Moorhead.

Emily Reno, PartnerSHIP 4 Health Regional Food Systems Plan
Partnership4Health is developing the first regional food systems plan for the area. They are conducting a survey as part of the data collection portion of the plan. This builds off of the asset mapping they did in November/December. Anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Otter Tail, Wilkin, Becker, Cass (ND), and Clay counties is eligible to participate and enter into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate.

Bjorn Solberg, Red River Harvest Cooperative
Red River Harvest Coop has new fresh produce for sale and continues to be the year-round online opportunity to purchase local food!

Kathleen Johnson, Growing Together Community Gardens
The Growing Together produce sale is May 18 and 25 from 2-6 p.m. They also have spots available to garden with them this season.

The Cass Clay Food Commission is meeting Wed, May 10 from 10:30am - noon in the Fargo City Commission Chambers.
